PHP Engineer (AI-Augmented Development)

We are looking for a PHP Engineer to join our SaaS and WordPress product team. You'll work on real-world products used by thousands of users, building scalable backend systems for WordPress plugins and Laravel-based SaaS platforms. In the era of AI-powered development, we value engineers who can effectively drive coding agents and AI tools to improve productivity, code quality, and system design, to sharpen fundamentals, not replace them.
You won't just write code; you'll orchestrate coding agents, review and validate their output, and use AI throughout the development lifecycle while owning the architecture, quality, and correctness of what ships.

What We're Looking For

Core Engineering
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with PHP & Laravel.
• Strong understanding of OOP, design patterns, and backend architecture.
• Experience building scalable, maintainable backend systems.
• Solid knowledge of JavaScript (ES6+), HTML, CSS/SCSS.
• Strong understanding of SQL databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL/Vector DB); NoSQL is a plus.
• Experience with Git / SVN and collaborative development workflows.
• Familiarity with Agile / Scrum / Kanban methodologies.
• A strong mentality for developing enterprise-level applications on a SaaS platform.

AI-Driven Development (Core Requirement)
We don't expect you to build AI models, but we expect you to work smart with AI.
• Demonstrated ability to build software using AI coding agents (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Codex) — not just autocomplete, but delegating and orchestrating multi-step development tasks.
• Comfortable using AI-assisted tools for code generation & refactoring, debugging and optimization, and writing tests and documentation.
• Skilled at writing clear, purposeful prompts and specs that reliably get correct output from AI tools, including breaking large tasks into agent-executable units.
• Strong judgment in reviewing, validating, debugging, and refactoring AI-generated code, you own correctness, security, and maintainability rather than trusting output blindly.
• Understanding of where AI fits and where human judgment is critical.
• Experience designing effective context for AI agents (project rules, documentation, MCP servers, custom tooling, or agent configuration) to improve output quality.
• Interest in integrating AI-powered features into products (e.g., automation, content generation, smart suggestions).
• A continuous-learning mindset toward the fast-evolving AI tooling landscape.

Backend & Integration
• Experience integrating 3rd-party services: authentication systems, payment gateways, CRM & email marketing APIs.
• Familiarity with email systems (SMTP, raw email structure, deliverability basics, spam filters).
• Experience with REST APIs and external service integrations (Google, Facebook, Instagram, etc.).
• Strong focus on security, performance, and scalability.[

Frontend & System Design (Bonus)
• Experience with React.js and front-end development.
• Understanding of system design and SaaS architecture (will get priority).
• Knowledge of DevOps basics (CI/CD, Docker, cloud deployments).
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
• Exposure to microservices architecture.
• Familiarity with WordPress.

General
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Fluent in English.

Educational Requirements
• Preferably a CSE background.
• Educational qualifications may be relaxed for an exceptionally experienced candidate. We prefer skill over degree.
